Turning a Sad Story Upside Down

Get into the Purim spirit with Meir Panim and help us transform the lives of Israel’s needy.

Purim is a Jewish holiday that celebrates the twist of fate. On this day, thousands of years ago, the Jewish people were saved from annihilation and emerged victorious over their oppressors.

“Venahafoch Hu,” “it was turned upside-down” (Esther 9:1)

At Meir Panim, every day is like Purim. We change the fate of Israel’s needy by providing them with the resources they need to break out of poverty and live a dignified life.

Here’s how we do it:

Benji Efron, Age 14

Benji Efron, the youngest of six children, comes from a struggling family living in the southern city of Yeruham. While his parents worked long hours to make ends meet, Benji would hang out with other at-risk kids in the neighborhood, who, like him, were hungry and often left unsupervised after school. Soon enough, Benji found himself constantly getting into trouble both in and out of the classroom, slowly spiraling into bad behaviors and negative influences.

While his parents worked long hours to make ends meet, Benji would hang out with other at-risk kids in the neighborhood, slowly sinking into a spiral of negative influences and risky behavior.

Benji Efron, Age 18

About a year ago, Meir Panim offered Benji the chance to participate in its Young Chef Training Program, a new initiative providing underprivileged youth the opportunity to gain life-changing skills through training in the culinary arts. Given his past, Benji knew this would be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and perhaps his only ticket out of poverty. He joined the program, learned the ins and outs of the culinary world, and graduated with a certificate. Today, Benji works as a chef at a restaurant in southern Israel, finally breaking the cycle of poverty for generations to come.

While his parents worked long hours to make ends meet, Benji would hang out with other at-risk kids in the neighborhood, slowly sinking into a spiral of negative influences and risky behavior.

You gave Benji his Venahafoch Hu opportunity.

Thousands of Israel’s needy are waiting for one too.

As Mordechai and Esther refused to accept the destruction of the Jewish people, doing everything in their power to change the fate of the Jewish people, Benji resisted the riptide, grabbed hold of his narrative, and with your help, changed the direction of his life for the better.

You helped Benji transform his life. This Purim, you can help thousands of others just like Benji transform their lives too. Israel’s needy are praying for their own Venahafoch Hu moment, but they can’t do it alone.
